Saint Patrick is perhaps one of the better known figures in Christianity and is the patron saint of Ireland. He was born into a wealthy British family near the end of the fourth century and is believed to have died on March 17 around 460 AD. During his life as a missionary and priest he was sent to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity. St. Patrick chose to integrate traditional Irish rituals and beliefs into his lessons of Christianity and is credited with creating the Celtic cross, where he overlaid the round disk of the sun onto a cross in order to take advantage of the Pagan Irish beliefs and help assimilate them to Christianity.
Saint Patrick's Day is commemorated by those of Irish decent and progressively more by non-Irish people around the world. The premise of the parties are all things Irish, where the community celebrates by eating Irish (or green) foods and drinking Irish drinks. The first parades to take place on this date originated in The United States, where Irish immigrants used the date to assert their identity and flex their political muscle. While the NYC parade is the largest of its kind, the first Saint Patrick's Day parade took place in Boston back in 1761. We hope you enjoy our Green themed parties this week and join us in celebrating a part of Boston's history. |

There is no denying that I am a Facebook fanatic! One year and one million stalking hours under my belt has definitely earned me the title as Facebook All American a Veteran of the Facebook if you will. If the Heisman trophy was given to the best Facebooker, I am pretty sure I would be a shoe-in. Since being a member of Facebook (which I should celebrate as an anniversary every year considering it's the best invention since the sliced bread) I have discovered some things that Facebook rookies should be taught.
Being connected to friends and acquaintances through the cyber world is a remarkable thing. There are the benefits of looking through pictures of friends kids that you may not get to see too often, family that may live on the other side of the country, and reconnecting with old HS or College friends you haven't talked to in years. But in actuality, how much personal information do we need to know about our cyber world friends, Sharing emotional states, moods for the day, weather or not we are fighting with a spouse. This led me to think about some of my Do's and Don'ts of Facebooking.

| Gina Colombo |
| Special Events Manager for Pasha Entertainment |
|
When Pasha Entertainment decided to add a new layer to their already outstanding clientele by making their available for special events, they knew they would need a savvy, well spoken, energetic person with an entrepreneurial spirit to realize their vision. The task developing this new department in the exciting fast paced company was given to Gina Colombo, the former dance studio owner and Vice President of Marketing and Development.
After graduating from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Gina began her career in NYC, producing events in the fashion trade show industry. In 2000 the opportunity arose to pursue a long time dream of owning a dance studio. She went on to build a successful client base, performing with her students all over New England and on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Dance Inc. was purchased by a colleague in 2004 when Gina took a developmental position for a construction remodel and maintenance company. Proving her adaptability and strength in sales and marketing, she quickly rose through the ranks and became Vice President managing a client base of over 100 properties, while maintaining a demanding project roster and overseeing a large staff.
When Pasha Entertainment asked Gina Colombo to develop a Special Events department for their group of venues, there was no question that this chameleon of a sales person would be not only capable, she would add elements that the owners had never considered. The former dance studio and VP of a construction and maintenance company shattered the image that nightclubs only cater to nightlife enthusiasts, opening the doors of beautiful establishments like Rumor, Venu and District to an entirely new group of professionals. The vast array of events Gina has managed for the group include charity fundraisers, networking events, liquor launches, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Sweet 16's, non-traditional weddings, corporate marketing and promotional events.
Just as significant as the events that Gina manages for Pasha are the notable
roster of hosts and speakers. During her short tenure, she has managed events featuring, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino and Caroline Schlossberg-Kennedy. The most remarkable of all special event guests would be the current President of the United States, Barack Obama. On December 2, 2007, while campaigning in Massachusetts, the then Illinois Senator visited Venu to speak to his supporters, Generation Obama.
There is no limit to the avenues that Gina is set to explore on behalf of Pasha Entertainment and she is well on her way to reaching her goal of making Pasha's venues premier event spaces in the city. |
